The Microwave

Let me explain.....first off, I have not used a microwave in almost 2 years. When I first went and saw my holistic doctor there were 3 things she told NOT to do, as far as diet and stuff was concerned. No artificial sweeteners, No soda and NO MICROWAVE! 
At first I thought ...hmm no microwave..interesting!
I do remember hearing things growing up like don't stand to close to the microwave when it's on due to radiation or something but that was it. 
So I did some research and realized why she said no microwave.
When you heat food in a microwave you are depleting it of all it's nutritional value and very well making it toxic. 
Before you stop reading cause you are convinced I am just some crazy health freak let me explain. I totally get the convenience of the microwave, but if you just take the extra minute to heat your food with the stove or oven you are doing yourself a great justice. ESPECIALLY mothers....please keep reading......

I hope I haven't lost you....here a few things I found from www.thehealthierlife.co.uk that I am going to copy and paste...

Argument #1: Microwaves cause a significant loss of nutrients in food.
 Microwaves are thought to destroy and deform food molecules. In fact, one study published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture found that broccoli 'zapped' in the microwave with a little water lost up to 97 percent of the beneficial antioxidant chemicals it contains. By comparison, steamed broccoli lost 11 percent or fewer of its antioxidants.
Other research has found that microwaves destroy the nutritional value of protein in meat.
Besides the loss of nutrients, microwaving forms new compounds (radiolytic compounds) that are unknown to humans and nature. Its not yet known exactly what these compounds do in the human body. 
Instead of cooking your vegetables in the microwave, why not steam them instead. It would appear that steaming is the best way to avoid losing valuable nutrients.
Argument #2: Microwaves leak.

In the book, Health Effects of Microwave Radiation Microwave Ovens by Dr. Lita Lee, she states that every microwave oven leaks electromagnetic radiation, harms food, and converts substances cooked in it to dangerous toxic and carcinogenic products.
There has been contradictory research linked to EMFs (electromagnetic fields) produced by appliances like microwave ovens.
Dr. David Carpenter, Dean at the US School of Public Health, State University of New York believes it is likely that up to 30% of all childhood cancers come from exposure to EMFs. In fact, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns 'There is reason for concern' and advises prudent avoidance.
EMFs can be measured with an instrument called a Gauss meter. In fact, here is what one reader has to say when he used a Gauss meter to test microwaves: Measuring with a Gauss meter, every microwave I tested leaked, and was detectable up to six feet away.
So just to be on the safe side, it is best to stand back from your microwave when its running.

Breaking free of your microwave.....
I'm not saying to go throw your microwave away, it can be useful for cleaning. But if you are in need of some more space in your kitchen then by all means the microwave should be the first thing to go.
You CAN survive without a microwave!! You just have to make a few small lifestyle adjustments, such as:
Plan ahead! Take out your dinner from the freezer that morning or the night before to let it thaw out so you don't have to defrost it in the microwave a couple hours before dinner.
Prepare meals in advance so you always have a good meal available on those days when you are too busy or tired to cook
Make soups / stews in bulk then freeze them, separating them according to how many meals you can get out of them. An hour before meal time take one out and defrost it in a sink of water until it's thawed enough to pour into a pot then reheat on the stove.
A toaster-oven makes a great substitute for a microwave for reheating food.
Best option...eat more organic raw foods ; ) this is the BEST way to improve your health over the long run anyway!
